Thames Barrier - APS Award
The Thames Barrier Limpet Dam project was ‘Highly Commended’ at the Association for Project Safety awards held on Wednesday 15 September.
Constructed during the 1970s and operational by 1982, the Barrier consists of 10 no. gates. Each gate rotates about 2 trunnion bearings held in place by high tensile steel tie bar clusters running through the piers. The Barrier requires continual component upgrades and maintenance intervention to sustain its unsurpassed reliability up to 2070. The Limpet Dam project is being carried out to re-tension and replace these bars, an activity never before undertaken. This has brought with it unique complex project and programme management challenges to ensure the work is carried out safely.
Anser are currently acting as the Environment Agency’s Project Manager for these works.
