Flood Alleviation Scheme, Essex
Anser were appointed by the Environment Agency in July 2007 to provide project management services in respect of the Cobbins Brook Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS).
The £6m scheme is designed to reduce the flood risk to 314 mainly residential properties and the M25 motorway in the town of Waltham Abbey in Essex. It involved the construction of the largest new dam in the South East of England in the last decade. Constructed approximately 2km upstream of the town storing 754,000m3 of water and providing a 1:50 year level of protection.
Our role has been to provide overall project management of the scheme. This has involved re-assessing the validity of the business case and working to secure land and legal agreements as well as target price negotiations to ensure value for money is obtained. Works commenced on site in Spring 2009 and completed in April 2010. The project has since won several major client and industry awards.
